I have owned two little aquatic turtles. I love reptiles, and turtles are awesome, however these little aquatic pets are usually thrown away by owners! They are NOT easy to take care off, most people think that they require low maintenance which is not true. They are definitely not good for children as its usual for turtles to carry salmonella and kids aren't particularly concerned with good hygiene. My water turtles did not have a very large tank, nor a good filtration system. This was a big issue. Even though I changed the water and stones in the tank frequently, the smell was horrible! In addition to this the turtles developed a soft shell which is not a good sign. These little pets require you to buy a large tank, with a good filtration system. Do not over feed them, as this is also common. Even though the pet itself is quite inexpensive, the equipment for a good maintenance isn't. I didn't have a great experience with these animals only because I didn't really know what I was singing up for when I bought them! Hopefully you will be aware of those "not so great" things after reading this review :).
