I've owned several bearded dragons, each was easy going, easy to handle, and easy to care for. We bred beardies for a little while, all of ours got along with each other well and lived well with other reptiles (tortoise, etc).

I would recommend a bearded dragon to any family. Sometimes getting a larger (aka, older) one is recommended since the babies are not as hardy or easy to care for... they can be finnikey. Just make sure to use overhead heated lighting instead of a heated rock - they can easily burn your dragon's belly.
