Often marketed as an entry level pet snake species, these are anything but, in my opinion, a snake for a conscientious owner. They're notoriously difficult to switch to frozen/thawed meals, and their tendency to go off-feed for months and commonly for over a year makes them a bit frustrating from time to time. They are typically a very lazy snake and spend most of their day-light hours hidden away so as well as providing a more realistic environment, offering them a day/night cycle or, better yet, limiting them to ambient room light is the best way to encourage them to be active. Their temperament varies from individual to individual as it does with any animal, but they are commonly easy-going and easy to maintain, and are therefore most common in the pet trade.
