The ball python is an excellent beginner snake. My Will is an extremely rewarding animal to be around. Ball pythons are often considered "pet rocks", and this is true to an extent. Want to sit on the couch and watch TV with your pet? Ball pythons love that! Will will curl up in my lap and go to sleep for hours at a time. While it is true that they're often sedate animals, they also seem to enjoy a bit of exploring every now and then. Will goes outside in our garden to explore under close supervision whenever the weather's nice. He doesn't show any signs of stress while outside, and genuinely seems to enjoy crawling through our flowers and bushes.
Their docile temperament is second to none. The only time will has ever shown any sign of aggression is when he mistook me for food, which was an error on my part. If you so choose, you could pick this snake up out of a dead sleep without any consequences.
These animals are very easy to keep, however, you should still do extensive research on them before acquiring one. Chain pet stores do not give out correct information on their care, and there are many myths floating around about their husbandry.
