I'll be honest, a Tegu is not for eveyone. They're beautiful and look epic and they are! But, they're also not made of casual pet owners, or children. They require a confident owner, someone who isn't nervous and who's committed their care and to handling them.

Jack was a great pet who didn't mind be handled but it was because we made sure we all took turns handling him and letting him explore. He wasn't overly fond of strangers but wasn't aggressive per say, just not at all interested. Sometimes he would have moments were you could tell he wasn't in the best of moods but it wasn't often and none of us ever got bit or scratched by him. He had a great personality though and loved nothing more than to run around the our lanai -it was enclosed- and then eat some fruit!

If you're a serious pet owner, who's up to a large pet that could potentially be around for a longgg time then go for it! But if you have any tendency to be nervous or don't have a large space for an enclousre, I'd suggest a smaller lizard, like a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko.
