Collective Wisdom, Inc. d/b/a RightPet (referred to herein as "RightPet") operates a website that allows users to share their knowledge and insight about pets and pet businesses, products, and service providers. To accomplish this, we gather information from and about users and share it with others, as described in more detail below.
"Website" means the website located at www.rightpet.com, whether accessed by a computer device or mobile application, and any mobile application used to access and use the Services.
"Services" means all of the services offered by RightPet on the Website, including without limitation the provision of information about animal species, breeds, and characteristics; provision of information about pet-related businesses and services; provision of a mechanism to post, share, and view recommendations about pets and reviews of pet-related businesses and services by registered RightPet Members; and publication of third-party listings of pet-related businesses.
"Member" is a person who creates an account to access and use the Services and features available on the Website.
Parties. "You" and "your" refer to you, as a user of the Website, whether or not you register as a Member of RightPet.com. "We", "us" and "our" refer to RightPet.
A "user" is someone who accesses, browses, or in any way uses the Website or Services, whether or not registered as a Member.
"Content" means text, images, photographs, audio, video, location data, and all other forms of data or communication. "Your Content" means Content that you submit or transmit to, through, or in connection with the Website, such as photographs, videos, ratings, reviews, recommendations, compliments, messages, stories, forum posts, photos and videos, information about pet businesses and service providers, and information that you publicly display or that is displayed in your account profile.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CHILDREN AND MINORS
The Website is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. If you are a child under the age of 13, do not submit any information to the Website. We do not knowingly request or collect personally identifiable information online, or offline contact information, from users under 13 years of age, nor do we knowingly use or share personal information from users under 13 years of age with third parties.
If you are older than the age of 12 and under the age of 18 or the applicable legal age to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction, you may use the Website and Services only under the supervision and with the involvement of your parent or guardian who has agreed to RightPet's Terms of Service and Content Guidelines. If you are a California resident and are older than the age of 12 and under the age of 18, and you have registered as a Member under the supervision of your parent or guardian, you have the right to request and obtain removal of content or information you have publicly posted on the Website. To make such a request, please send an email with a detailed description of the specific content or information to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be aware that such a request does not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content or information you have posted and that there may be circumstances in which the law does not require or allow removal even if requested.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE IT
1. Information that you give us
We receive, store, and process information that you provide and make available to us when accessing and using the Website. Examples include:
- information you provide when you create a Member account on the Website. We may store and use your first name, email address, gender, month and year of birth, and location information such as city, state, region, nation, and zip or postal code. Your Member name, city, state/region, nation, and any photo you submit through the registration process will be publicly displayed as part of your Member profile.
- information you provide when you fill out RightPet surveys and questionnaires on the Website, including your personality trait and temperament data;
- Your Content that you submit to the Website, such as photographs, videos, ratings, reviews, recommendations, compliments, messages, stories, forum posts, and information about pet businesses and service providers. and information that you publicly display or that is displayed in your account profile. We display Your Content on the Website in order to share your knowledge and insights with other RightPet users and the broader community. Your profile information may be displayed in connection with Your Content.
- information we receive when you link your account on a third-party site (e.g., Facebook) to your RightPet account; in that case, we will obtain the personal information that you have provided to the third-party site, to the extent allowed by your settings with the third-party site and authorized by you.
- information you provide when you communicate with RightPet.
2. Mobile Data
When you use certain features of the Website, in particular our mobile applications, we may receive, store, and process different types of information about your location, including general information (e.g., IP address, zip code) and more specific information (e.g., GPS-based functionality on mobile devices used to access the Website or specific features of the Website). If you access the Website through a mobile device and you do not want your device to provide us with location-tracking information, you can disable the GPS or other location-tracking functions on your device, provided your device allows you to do this. See your device manufacturer's instructions for further details.
3. Log Data
We may also receive, store, and process log data, which is information that is automatically recorded by our servers whenever you access or use the Website, regardless of whether you are registered as a Member with RightPet or logged in to your RightPet Member account, such as your IP Address, the date and time you access or use the Website, the hardware and software you are using, referring and exit pages and URLs, the number of clicks, pages viewed and the order of those pages, and the amount of time spent on particular pages.
4. Cookies and other Tracking Technologies
Online Tracking: While you may disable the usage of cookies through your browser settings, we do not change our practices in response to a "Do Not Track" signal in the HTTP header from your browser or mobile application, or in response to other mechanisms that provide consumers the ability to exercise choice regarding the collection of personally identifiable information about an individual consumer's online activities over time and across third-party websites or online services. We track your activities if you click on advertisements for RightPet Services on third-party platforms such as search engines and social networks, and we may use analytics to track what you do in response to those advertisements.
5. Third-party Social Plugins
The RightPet Website may use social plugins that are provided and operated by third-party companies, such as Facebook's “Like” button. As a result, you may send to the third-party company the information that you are viewing on a certain part of the Website. If you are not logged into your account with the third-party company, then the third party may not know your identity. If you are logged into your account with the third-party company, then the third party may be able to link information about your visit to our Website to your account with the third party. Similarly, your interactions with the social plugin may be recorded by the third- party company.
HOW, WHEN, AND WITH WHOM RIGHTPET DISCLOSES OR SHARES YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
Your personal Information may be disclosed on the RightPet Website as follows:
- Parts of your public profile page that contain some personal information may be displayed in other parts of the Website to other users. For example, your Member name and city, state/region, and nation may be displayed next to reviews, ratings, and recommendations you submit.
Third parties may receive information about you as follows:
1. Search Engines
The Website allows your public profile and Your Content to be included in third-party search engines, in which case your public profile and Your Content will be indexed by search engines and may be published as search results.
2. Social Networking
On the RightPet Website, you may send messages to other Members through the Website. Your email address is not shared with other Members in these messages. On RightPet you may also “follow” other users and invite them, or respond to their invitations, to share profile information and Your Content, such as reviews, ratings, and recommendations.
You may link your account on a third-party social networking site to your RightPet Member account. We refer to a person's contacts on these third-party sites as "Friends." When you create this linkage:
- some of the information you provide to us from the linking of your accounts may be published on your RightPet Member profile.
- your activities on the Website may be displayed to your Friends on that third-party site.
- other Website users may be able to see any Friends that you may have in common with them.
- we may distribute parts of the Website (including Your Content) for display on sites operated by RightPet’s business partners and affiliates, using technologies such as HTML widgets. If and when Your Content is displayed on a partner's site, information from your RightPet public profile page may also be displayed.
4. Aggregate Information
We may share user information in the aggregate with third parties, such as advertisers and content distributors. For example, we may disclose the number of users that have been exposed to, or clicked on, advertisements on the Website. We may also share demographic information, human personality trait and temperament data, Member reviews, RightPet Match data, and other user Content in an aggregated form on the Website, in scientific journal articles, in publicity for RightPet, and with third parties. All such aggregated information that we share will be in a non-personally identifiable form.
We may investigate or disclose to third parties information about you and your use of the Website if we have a good faith belief that such investigation or disclosure is reasonably necessary: a) to avoid liability; b) to identify, prevent, or take action against possible illegal activities in connection with Website; c) to enforce our Terms of Service; d) to comply with legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order; or e) to protect our rights, reputation, or property, or that of our users, our affiliates, or the public. We are not required to question or contest the validity of any search warrant, subpoena, or other similar legal or governmental request or order that we receive.

7. Use of the Website Outside the United States
CONTROLLING YOUR PERSONAL DATA AND RECEIPT OF COMMUNICATIONS
When you voluntarily disclose information about yourself in submitting Your Content to the Website (for example, by including your name or email address in a rating that you post to the Website), that information can be collected and used by third parties and may result in unsolicited messages from those parties. Such activities are beyond our control. You should not post any information on the Website that you want or expect to keep private.
If you are a registered RightPet Member, you can modify your account information at any time by accessing your Account Settings page. You can close your account by clicking “Deactivate your account” on your Account Settings page. We will send you a confirmation email with a link that you must click in order to close your account permanently. When you close your account, any content you have contributed to the Website will no longer be displayed with your Member name, and will instead display as being contributed by "Formerly a member."
You may opt out of receiving messages from other Members. In addition, you may opt out of receiving certain messages from RightPet by changing your notification settings on your Account Settings page, or by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of an email message.
We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us about you, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or via mobile device, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, although we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
