.<br><br>Like most fish, the betta is easy to take care of (never had any issues) but because of its lack of social graces, I view them as more of a piece of art, to be admired from afar and not pestered with.){kind=link}
 and friendly with all who come near him. I've seen him around other dogs, cats, little kids and strangers and his reactions are always the same... polite and mellow!<br><br>He's also fairly easy to take care of, with short, straight hair and a cute, bulldog-ish face that is not as susceptible to the breathing problems similar-faced dogs can experience. <br><br>I recommend a dog like this to anyone looking for easygoing yet playful companionship, and particularly for a family with young children, as his modest size and friendly temperament fits any environment.){kind=link}

He was exceptionally playful and friendly.<br><br>On the negative side, we were never quite able to get him to "hold it in" for his walks. He had a habit of peeing wherever he was, indoors or out, whenever he felt the slightest urge. In fact, I think he PREFERRED urinating indoors, especially in the kitchen.<br><br>Another negative was his uncanny ability to break his chains and run away. In a two week period, he ran away 3 times, once going so far as to wind up in a supermarket a mile and a half away.<br><br>Eventually, our family realized we couldn't handle this dog anymore and gave him away to a big family, who were very pleased to have him. We kept in touch and it turns out they had the space, time and energy to keep up with him.<br><br>Based on my experience if you plan on getting a black lab, make sure you have plenty of time and energy to devote to him or her. Aside from that, you can count on the dog being friendly, handsome and playful.){kind=link}
