, and this is probably due to the fact they are a sizeable critter.
If you have a pet the size of a guinea pig or rabbit you tend to have a large wooden hutch, and a run, and garden space. However chinchillas suffer badly as a species in hot weather, so keep them away from radiators and from windows during summer. They also need a very large indoor cage, at least 6 x 6' or more.
They are very active and fun to watch running around the house but will gnaw everything, I lost countless book spines. They will also go for wooden bed/chair legs etc., so anything you actually care about, put away or cover up.){kind=link}
