PLAYPEN PLAYBABIES ARE NURTURED FROM EARLY ON USING OUR 4-PHASE WEANING PROGRAM.
Whenever possible, Playbabies are left with the parent birds for the first two
weeks after hatching.span We believe the parent does a much better job
caring for and protecting their little one’s frail immune systems.span
Once we pull our babies, they start a structured nurturing, feeding and
weaning program.span We believe it is this 4-phase weaning program is
responsible for our success in developing our babies into wonderful,
tame, loving adult pet birds.
Our philosophy is unique to aviculture. It starts with the use of the
word "PARENTING" versus breeding pairs. Our parenting birds are in many
respects 'PETS WITH SPOUSES". Some of our parents are housed in
large flights, others in large quality cages. Each pair receives daily
human interaction. Some pairs are tame enough to be allowed out of
their cages during this time. Each pair has at least two stimulating
toys, a swing, bathing area and all have view of the outside and music.
The parenting room is kept spotless with cages cleaned daily. A
state of the art electronic air cleaner filters the air they breathe.
Feathered Playpen runs a closed aviary in that all of our parenting birds have been medically evaluated before entering the parenting room. Medical evaluations are thorough, and depending on our veterinarians suggestions may consist of one or all of the following tests: fecal and choanal gram stains, Blood chemistry profiles, Chlamydia, Polyomavirus, Pacheco's and PBFD. New pairs are then isolated until results clear.
