 a couple of years ago, and went to the local animal shelter to find one. We wanted a small, short-haired dog, and we found a chihuahua breed mixed with rat terrier. We loved her from the very start because she was so incredibly affectionate. We lovingly call her our "dog baby" because she loves to be held and her personality is so easy and affectionate. <br><br>So here are the pros of owning this kind of dog: Surprisingly, she very rarely barks, as I previously thought all small dogs were kind of yippy, but she almost never barks. I trained her very simply and easily to sit, stay, turn, roll-over and to go in her crate, and she does all of these readily on command, and was easy enough to train. She is easy to groom and does not require professional grooming because of her short hair. She does shed a lot in the spring, but then it calms down. She is great with kids and other small pets. She runs incredibly fast and loves to chase squirrels (probably the rat terrier in her). She is very high energy, but loves to snuggle. <br><br>The cons are: she needs lots of attention. If she were not our only dog, I think she would struggle because she seems to need the attention we lavish on her, and when we are too busy she acts out by peeing on one of the rugs in the house. I haven't figured out how to prevent this because it appears to be acting out behavior and not a genuine need to go out. She also will eat anything and likes to catch house flies, bugs, etc.<br><br>Overall, we love this dog and this breed - she is easy to care for and loveable.){kind=link}
