She has a sleek, mostly black coat, with white on her legs and belly. She is the the queen bee of the house's cats. Not in an aggressive way. She's too secure in her own regal nature that she doesn't bother with displays. She takes care of my Ragdoll cat like he's her little brother. She's always grooming him. They're adorable together.<br><br>Teeny is an incredibly smart cat. She knows exactly how to communicate what she wants. It's often wet food. She'll sit by the bowl and look up beseechingly until I give in. If that doesn't work she'll give little pitiful mews to remind me that she's waiting. It's highly effective. <br><br>Teeny has some quirks. One of them is that she sneezes a lot, as in icky sprays of snot landing on the wall or your arm. I've talked to a veterinarian about it, worried that she was sick. Apparently this is just how Teeny is . . . a sneezy cat. She'll occasionally snore when she's really sleepy. It's pretty cute. She sleeps on the pillow above my head, purring. <br><br>Teeny tends to be a bit overweight, though I try to feed her low calorie food. She's gotten pretty lazy during playtime. Most of the time she just wants to sit on my desk and occasionally bat at the Da Bird toy that I need to carefully aim to pass by her at just the right spot. She finds it enthralling though, and will meow if I stop until I start back up again.<br><br>One time my not very bright Ragdoll cat got lost by somehow crawling through an opening in the bathtub installation. We didn't know that was possible, so we're outside, calling his name, getting frantic with worry for twenty minutes. Then we heard a "meow" from a screen opening to under our house. It was Teeny! She had understood that we were searching for my Ragdoll, so she managed to find him under the house and lead him to the small screen where she was able to alert us to their location. She saved the day and rescued Caspian! Such a brilliant kitty!<br><br>Aside from the sneezing, Teeny has always been a healthy cat. She enjoys being around people and gets along fine with dogs. She's never had any bathroom issues. From my experience with Teeny, I've found American Shorthairs to be healthy, smart and loving cats who make excellent pets.){kind=link}

We loved Gidget, but she was a handful! It was largely our fault for not being consistent with training her. I remember my parents resorting to taking her to behavioral training classes. She wasn't a bad dog. She just had so much energy and would often ignore attempts to control her.<br><br>I have so many memories having to nearly jog to catch up to her and remain upright during walks! She was difficult to hold back when passing another dog. She wouldn't growl, but she would bark a lot and try to get to the other dog, to interact. This was another issue that was pretty much our fault for not putting in more effort and time to train and socialize her to other dogs.<br><br>At one house, Gidget would dig under the fence and go on her own little adventures. I remember we had to drive around the neighborhood because "Gidget got out again". It was a regular, frustrating occurrance. We took her for short daily walks, but she loved running around and exploring the world. When we found her she'd generally run up to us and happily get in the car.<br><br>Gidget got more subdued with age and the break-outs stopped. She was never a mean dog. Gidget loved the family so much! She wanted to be around us all the time. For years she slept in my sisters bed. They had a very close bond. <br><br>As a teen, I was often irritated with Gidget. She'd grab food off the counter and bark at passing cars or neighbors. And she would fart. The teenage me had little patience for her. Then one night I got horrible food poisoning, the kind where you literally sleep on the floor of your bathroom. And throughout the night, Gidget stayed by my side. She usually slept on her dog bed in the kitchen, but Gidget knew that I was suffering and chose to comfort me. We both slept on that cold tile floor that night. After that, my heart opened back up to her. <br><br>I think a Dalmatian wasn't the smartest choice of dog for us. We should have taken her for longer walks probably, and I know we should have put more effort into training. She wasn't perfect, but neither were we. Altogether, Gidget was a pretty great family dog. She was happy, good-natured and she LOVED being around us. Gidget was often a frustrating dog, but she was 100% a member of our family.){kind=link}
. I knew they couldn't be outdoors because they lack normal cat instincts to protect themselves. I'd read about their dog-like love of attention and devotion to people. I found all of this to be true after getting my own Ragdoll over a decade ago.<br><br>Caspian is a beautiful fluffy long-haired cat with a huge heart. I absolutely adore him, but he isn't too bright. It's endearing really. My sister and I joke that he is "special bus special". Our other cats have all been much smarter, more clever at manipulating us to giving them what they wanted (like wet food on demand!) <br><br>My Ragdoll also doesn't understand normal cat instincts. When other cats would band together to guard their home turf from neighborhood kitty intruders, Caspian would just go right up to the stranger cat wanting to make friends. It wouldn't occur to him that the other cat might be hostile or intruding. Caspian is all friendly, loving curiosity. Where you might trust most cats to be able to find their way home if they ever got outside, I would never trust Caspian to be able to do that. <br><br>He lets me pick him up whenever I'd like and cuddle him like a baby. He'll follow me into the bathroom for the attention. He loves nothing more than to cocoon himself in the tent I make of my blanket with my knees lifted. He demands it constantly. As soon as I get in bed, he's nudging my knee with his face, insisting on immediate tent!<br><br>Yes, they are not especially clever and they don't possess normal cat "street smarts". Still, I highly recommend them if they appeal to you. If you get a Ragdoll cat, you will find yourself with a loving, special, true companion.){kind=link}
