Hello! I love "critters"! I grew up on a horse farm in Kentucky, where we had horses, cattle, goats, cats, dogs, and the occasional rabbit. We can learn a lot from animals. They "keep it simple" and only want to serve and be loved!

They have the dark, black faces and legs, the thin long necks, and the finer bones structure. This darker coloring of their skins make them less likely to get certain diseases because is acts as a kind of sun-block and makes their skins less sensitive. This bread came from England by breeding two different breed together, the Southdown and the Northern Horned Breeds. The resulting Suffolk is known for its great meat producing quality and is considered an improvement on its parenting breed. They get to be about 250 to 350 pounds in the rams and about 180 to 250 for the ewes. It's fleece is considered to be in the medium range of preferred wool type, which makes it very marketable. It ranges about 2 to 3 inches long and has a yield slightly over 50 percent. Suffolk are hardy sheep, getting that characteristic from the Northern Horned Sheep, which is now considered very rare. These sheep are hornless, and their heads should not only bee black, but wrinkle-free. Ears are long and bell-shaped and they sort of droop down towards the corners of the mouth. But not spotted goats are Jacob Sheep, so you have to be careful. This breed has been around for centuries. It has a more primitive body type, fine bone structure and less body fat than another breeds. This makes the popular breeding stock, plus farmers just like having them around because of their striking appearances. Their pelts can go for a higher prices, too. They are a horned breed, and the ewes are well known to have high mothering instincts, and therefore lambs easily. The offspring are up and nursing easily on their own. The hardiness of the Jacob Sheep means less supplemental nutritional feed is needed during pregnancy. Its fleece is highly marketable and has a high "quilted" appearance due to its double coating and mixture of black and white patches. All in all, a great animal to have on the farm!){kind=link}

A wide range of patterns can be found, but the most common are dark horse with white, snowflake spots, or the white body with a leopard like spotting pattern. But all types and varieties do exist. The rarer coats may be a frost with white speckled markings, or my favorite, which is called the "blanket" pattern, which is a predominantly all white horse with little brown spots on its hind quarters. Another unique quality of these horse is that their hooves are black and white stripped. They range in height from 14 to 15 hands and have eyes that can look into your soul! Appaloosas are good jumpers and do very well in Western Events. They are very easy to get along with, have great temperaments, and make good long trail riders.
