My family has always played host to our own little menagerie. Fish, turtles, guinea pigs, dogs, you name it! There is no pet too big or small. All that matters is that they become part of the family.

Each one has had their own little personality and quirks. The best way I can describe them simply, though, is that they are the closest thing you can find to a cat without actually BEING a cat.<br>They all were quite energetic and boisterous, which make them great for playing catch or a little tug-of-war. But they want to be played with when THEY want to be played with. Especially as they get older, they tend to become more aloof and come around to be petted and played with at their leisure.<br>They also tend to dig...and bark...a lot. Since their heritage is of the hunting and rooting sort, they can cause a bit of trouble when left to their own devices. More than one of our little guys escaped the backyard by digging out under the fence in less than five minutes flat.<br>And though their little "wienie" frame is adorable, you have to be careful with their backs. Many of them have back problems, though ours luckily had very few issues. <br>But for all of this, they are very loyal dogs. Ours tended to single out one or two of his favorite humans and was their loyal protector 'till the end. I would say they are not too well suited for a full house, especially with kids, but they would be better for a one or two person home.){kind=link}

She was an incredibly sweet and loving dog who eventually became the "big mamma" of our other pets. <br>For example, we had a hamster and a couple other smaller dogs at the same time and we had an issue with the smaller dogs attacking our hamsters if they escaped their cage. One night, Hope found the two smaller dogs ready to attack our Houdini of a hamster, but she was not about to let them hurt the hamster. She scared them off and by morning, when we discovered the hamster had escaped yet again, we found it in the kitchen with Hope watching over it.<br>She got along great with other kids, pets, frankly anyone that came around. Though incredibly social, she was not hyper or aggressive.<br>She was also very low maintenance. We kept her groomed, but she honestly didn't need to do that too often. And she stayed in great health well into her late teens.<br>I would highly recommend a cockapoo, especially as a family pet!){kind=link}
