We have gotten lucky and found cats he barely reacts to in shelters, but when we decided we wanted a hypoallergenic kitten, we knew exactly what type of cat to get. My father and stepmother have owned Siberian Forest Cats for most of my life with minimal allergic reactions, if any. Growing up, they taught our cats to use the toilet. They occasionally would flush an extra time, but it saved us a lot of work cleaning litter boxes. I haven't gotten around to doing the same with Katrina, but she has so far been much easier to train than our domestic house cat. She quickly learned not to jump on the tables, scratch the furniture, or attempt to steal our food.<br>Katrina is very playful, a little shy at first around new faces but warms up quickly, and doesn't meow excessively unless she's hungry in the morning. We don't let her sleep in our bed, but she would if she could. Siberians are definitely predatory animals, however, so if you're looking for an animal that never pounces on your pet hamster or never leaves you "gifts" on the door step, this may not be the best animal for you. , but is the first to hear and alert you if anyone is at the door, outside the house, or moving around downstairs. This isn't ideal if you have a baby in the house, but was great while my house was full of girls that needed to know if they were in any danger. She's a great alarm system, but a sucker for a belly rub - she won't attack anyone unless given a good reason to; she would growl if she believed a visitor was bad news, however. Katie was easy to train; this includes staying in the yard, staying close during walks (although the border collie in her made that a natural skill), requesting a bathroom trip, and staying off of the furniture (although we eventually caved and let her on the couch).<br>That being said, we didn't adopt her until she was an adult so she never learned to do any party tricks. She was a quick learner though, so I imagine you wouldn't have much difficulty training her as a puppy.<br>Despite all of that, she isn't the brightest dog; however, she doesn't shed very much, is easy to groom, rarely drools, and loves children (unless they get in the way while she's running to the door).<br><br>Pros: friendly, great alarm system, loyal, protects you/sticks close on walks, respects boundaries, barely sheds, easy to groom, playful, plays fine with other animals, easy to train<br>Cons: has a lot of energy, requires a lot of attention, noisy, eats a lot){kind=link}

They are comfortable to cuddle with, mostly take care of keeping themselves clean (indoor cats - my experience with outdoor cats is minimal), and are great with children.<br>Arya actively went out of her way to ensure that she never jumped or stepped on my baby, going as far as avoiding sitting in her empty seat or crib. As my daughter grew into a toddler, Arya was very patient when I had to save her from tail pulling and has yet to fight back despite having all of her claws. The only problems we've encountered is how difficult she has been to train. It's possible that's because we adopted her when she was mostly grown as my cats in the past were a little better behaved; all of my cats have caused trouble with jumping on tables and clawing at the furniture, however. It's a toss up whether you get a cat who is susceptible to training or not, but what is life without a little risk?<br>Pros: warm, social but noninvasive, family-friendly, easy to clean, easy to litter box-train, indoor or outdoor options, gentle, minimal daily time commitment (you don't have to be home throughout the day to take care of it)<br>Cons: furniture scratching, difficult to train, shedding, brushing, hair balls, litter box area gets messy quickly, doesn't always get along well with other animals (other cats, birds, fish, dogs)){kind=link}
). While this may not be for everyone, it definitely led to him being a much happier bird. The down side of this is finding your comfort level during the training process. If you don't want your pet to sit on the table at dinner, immediately dash for the doors, or land in your hair, you need to specialize its training more so than with land animals. Keeping these beauties in a cage full time doesn't take advantage of their potential, so I highly recommend only buying a budgie if you don't mind an invasive pet that will land on you unexpectedly, hangout with you often, and sit on the furniture.<br><br>Pros: beautiful, social, loving, easy to train, easy to clean up after, small<br>Cons: noisy, free-spirited (doesn't always come when you call or want to cuddle when you do)){kind=link}
