I am an animal rescuer. I have rescued strays as well as fostered animals out. I have owned many breeds including: Dachshund, Poodle, German Shepard,German Short Haired Pointer,Labrador and more. I love animals and love rescuing them and assuring they find the best home for them.

. He always alerted us if he felt we were in danger. He didn’t bark for silly things, such as a cat or a dog, he only barked to alert us, so he also wasn’t a noisy dog. <br>4. Loyal to the family- Of all the dogs that I have owned in my life, Smoky was one of the few that didn’t just obey one person in the house, he obeyed the whole family. He treated us more like a pack, rather than one master. Because of this, he was also very family friendly. He loved to play outside with us, or when people came over. <br>5. Playful and Friendly- Overall, Smoky was simply a happy, friendly guard dog! He was a wonderful friend to all the neighbors that knew him. <br>Negatives:<br>1. High Maintenance- Smoky was a very active dog, and on the few occasions that I didn’t get a chance to walk him during the day he would become very sad, almost depressed. He needed to use his energy and be active in order to feel himself. I walked with him three times a day, and ran with him two times a day. If you don’t have a big enough yard for them to burn their energy, you will have to dedicate a lot of time to exercising them. <br>2. Grooming Needs-Since most German Sheperds are outside dogs, they can be difficult in the grooming department. Smoky’s fur had a tendency to get matted after a day of rain, or get stuck in clumps from him getting in dirt. Smoky needed to be brushed every morning to ensure that it stayed healthy, and didn’t fall out. <br>3. Can be too rowdy for kids- Since Smoky was such a huge dog, and had such a rowdy nature, we felt that it might be too risky letting a small child play with him. He was quite a pushy player and would try to knock us over to play. So if you have small children running around, a German Sheperd might not be the best option.<br><br>With my experience with Smoky, I grew to love the German Sheperd breed. They are beautiful, friendly, and intelligent companions. If you have the ability to give them the exercise and grooming that they need as a pet, you will be given loyalty and protection in return. I would have kept Smoky for his entire life, but when I moved I knew he would be happier in a bigger home. We gave him to friends of ours that own a ranch so that he could get the running and exercise he needed. We still keep in contact with this family and they are very pleased with him.){kind=link}
