Of all the fowl I've had over my tenure here, the Indian runner has to take the top spot for me. These character rich birds offer a great deal around the smallholding, farm or in and around the back yard. The stock rate would be the same as any chicken, allowing about 3ft square living space per bird.

They provide great tasting eggs which all my family has grown fond of since their arrival. They will keep the grass nicely trimmed and fertilized and do enjoy a dip if one can be provided, but it's not essential; They love spending time in the long grass and will generally be the last to make their way to the coop of an evening. The biggest drawback is the filth they create in the coop. By far and away the dirtiest creature I've kept, but they make up for it. Little quackers. Sorry, couldn't resist.
