Growing up on a hundred acre farm in Ohio, we had just about every critter there is. One of my favorite dairy cows was our Guernsey. We had a mixed herd, but Bessie Mae was always the first to come in for milking and always waited around for some scratching. She had horns, but never offered to use them. Even as a young child, I could easily hand milk her because she was so quiet natured. Guernseys were very common in our area, and many big dairy farms had whole herds of them. Their milk production is very high, their meat is good quality and relatively lean, and they are just calm easy cattle to deal with.
