Grey partridge or commonly known as brown partridge in Pakistan is a beautiful bird found in many continents. It lives in bushes and dense forests. I myself keep this bird for many years. Grey partridge is a game bird and people used it both for meat and for hobby. Male partridge sings and it depends on their mood while female partridges didn’t sing at all. In wild, they breed once a year and there breeding season starts from March and ends in June. Female partridge laid up to 15 eggs in a single clutch and the hatching rate is above 90%. While in captivity, professional breeders take two and sometimes three breeds from single pair in a year.
Partridges are hard bird. They can easily fight with disease and weather in wild. There main enemy in wild includes foxes, falcons and hunters while in captivity, cats poses serious danger, if left unguarded. To keep them, you need to build a special enclosure and provide them reasonable space, so that they remain active. Insects especially termite and grasshopper are their favorite food. So, we can say that, it is bit costly to keep grey partridges. These cute birds are of friendly nature. You can keep the wild grey partridge in captivity as well and they will give you a good result.
