Donkey's are very unique and spirited farm animals. Bred as work animals in the history, they are not meant to be pets. They are great to have on a farm, they act as protectors towards the other herd animals. A donkey in a herd of cows or sheep will fight off predators like a wolf or coyotes. They are less social than horses, they will imprint on the person who cares for them. They can be stubborn and hard to handle. Definitely not for someone wanting a pet. My parents have two donkey's a mother and daughter, or Jenny and Jenny Jr. and just like "Donkey" from Shrek their names "Jenny" & "Jenny Junior" ( J.J. for short). The female term for a donkey. They add a very nice diversity to the farm yard, remember they are not pets and need to be handle accordingly and given respect.
