Donkeys are incredibly smart. Joshua was an amazing creature. When we acquired him we had a blind pony. Joshua took it upon himself to lead the pony to water, then back out to the field to graze. He was not taught to do it, he just seemed to understand there was a need. Joshua was a good riding donkey, and he easily took to driving as well. Donkeys are generally very friendly and like to be scratched and petted. I have had experience with donkeys over the years, and each one is more intelligent than the last. They make good trail mounts because they are sure footed.
