My husband and I have been raising Dexters for 5 years. The do exceptionally well or mixed forage pasture, interacting with pigs, goats, horses and poultry. They are calm, easy to handle and have had no trouble calving. I ranked them as managable to kids over 8 only because we do not dehorn, and I think any animal with that much weight has the potential to be "too much" for a very young child.
I highly recommend this breed to those considering a small farm or homesteading situation. They will provide meat, milk, brush clearing and companionship with minimal input. Check us out at www.GrimmAcresFarm.com
