Miniature Dexter are underrated

This review is from my experience with my sister's hobby farm. Any addition to her farm is carefully thought out and researched, the cattle especially so.

The local farmers around her scoffed somewhat over her choice of Dexters. The common consensus seemed to be their small size. The bigger the better is what they said. But there are several reasons why these miniature cows are perfect for her needs.

For one, they produce great milk. For another, they are hardy and low maintenance. She said they could wander out of the pasture and survive indefinitely on the land. Lastly, but not least, she is able to butcher them herself (which would be nearly impossible with a full-size). My sister is self-sufficient and doesn't want to have to rely on extra hands.

So there's the business end of it. Since I don't own a farm and am only a guest, I have a different take. Her cows are adorable. I know. But they are. They have a sweet temperament and I have no fear around them. They don't even know me well but seem comfortable amongst strangers. But, I'm a great moo-er and I think they know I'm harmless.

Bottom line, great all-purpose easy cattle and cute to boot.
