We have only had our two Dexters for about four months, so I don't have a lot of experience with them. We have wanted Dexters for several years. When we read about them, we understood they are docile, they bulk up good for meat, but they are small, so steaks will be smaller than normal, they give good milk, not quite as rich as a Jersey, but still a high milkfat content, and they are supposed to calve easily. Our female was exposed to a bull for seven months. She might be pregnant, I'm not sure. As far as friendliness goes, she has a lot of spirit. I have been working with her, and I see the potential for her to become more calm and trusting, but right now I don't think I could milk her yet. I have gotten her to come into the stall to eat several times, so I know that I can work with her, but it make take more time to know for sure. The bull is our other cow's favorite boyfriend. He is playful with them and loves to snuggle with them.
