I've had a handful of cochins over several years, most of which came to me as free "rare" chicks from one of the hatcheries I order from. I've had several colors, all of which are very pretty and everyone just loves their furry little feet.
These aren't a bad bird to have, but I like to go for efficiency in egg production and there are better breeds for that. Still, they held up and had fair egg production (a bit small for their comparative body size in my opinion, but not bad). They are said to be fair meat-producers, too, but I never processed any of mine. Although they will go outside, they don't range as well as a lot of my other chickens. I wouldn't choose them if you want a reliable ranging flock.
Although they wouldn't be my first choice, their production and attitude was pretty good, and they are attractive so when caught in the right mood I'd get some. I've had roosters as well as hens and the roosters remained pretty docile for me.
