I was raised on a farm that had many quails for a period of time. Mainly Common Quails but we also had some Chinese Painted Quails. The Painted Quails are quite beautiful and can have pretty elaborate colouring and feather patterns.
They are quite easy to raise and house....with the exception that the male birds (cocks) need to be kept apart because they will attack and fight each other. They also need a decent amount of room to roam around, so would not be a good choice if you are planning on keeping them caged in a small space. A planted aviary would be best.
Breeding wise our Quail hens would typically breed about 7-14 eggs.
