The Call Ducks I have had have been decent egg layers considering their size. I have never had problems with soft shelled eggs, or any other sort of egg problems that are supposed to be common to the breed. They are fed a basic chicken layer ration.
The ducks sometimes go broody, but I didn't find them to be overly good mothers once the ducklings hatched.
They have a loud, shrill call, but it is not annoying. Even the drakes can make a fairly loud noise.
The drakes have amazing colors just after moulting.
If handled, call ducks get reasonably tame. Mine are still hard to catch, but are easy to herd from one place to another if necessary, and are very comfortable being held once they are caught.
