When I first decided to hold some chicken in my backyard I was totally shocked by huge amount of possible chicken breeds. It took me a lot of time searching google for information about different breeds and it also got me down to the question "What do I want my chickens for". Since I always wanted my chicken for laying my breakfast eggs breeds that are just for meet production and hardly lay eggs where taken down for my list. Also breeds that are claimed to be very aggressive were not the right for me. After a while and a long talk with a chicken expert I decided to take a couple of Bulgarian Bantam chickens and it was probably the best decision I ever made. Not only do they lay big and nicely colored eggs, that by the way are truly delicious, but they also are very calm and easy to handle. Though they don't like temperature differences that much and there eggs tend to be a bit smaller in times of change. I think choosing the right chicken breed isn't that easy but I defiantly made the right decision.
