Currently, I work at a medium production setting where we have both Holsteins and Brown Swiss cows for milk production in a semi-extensive system where they spend around 10 hours per day grazing. Brown Swiss cows are very sturdy and they adapt very well to their environment. We see very few of these cow getting sick and they produce a good amount of milk. We get an average of 13 kg of Swiss cows and 18 from Holsteins. I would recommend this breed over Holsteins for those of you who do not have so much experience in milk production because they require less maintenance in terms of health care.
