Chickens are interesting to say the least. People are becoming more and more aware of healthier living and want to choose organic foods over mass farming. It’s becoming easier to raise your own chickens on a small area of land. It is wonderful to have fresh eggs, free of antibiotics and lacking nutrients from hormone infiltration. However, chickens are not the easiest creatures to keep. They have a pecking order, and you need to constantly make adjustments for this. If you do not, there will be fights and distress. Hens also go through periods of egg sitting, and if her eggs don’t hatch, she will get broody, and a broody hen is a hard thing to change. She may never set on eggs ever again, nor lay any. Mastering how to tend to your chicken’s needs will provide you many rewards, but you must be willing to put in the work!
