We weren't sure if we wanted to get into raising turkeys because we had heard a lot about how difficult it is to keep them alive but I'm glad we decided to take a chance on raising a few this past year. Out of five birds four reached maturity and they were huge! Their feed to growth rate was excellent and even though they were a production breed they still had enough turkey sense to do a little scratching around for bugs and seeds. We had to watch out in warm weather because they overheat easily. It is also important to handle them extremely gently and cautiously when moving them to fresh pasture because their bones are very brittle.
