These are a great breed of chicken for people who want an independent and calm bird. They do very well as a free range chicken, but don't mind being cooped up either. These guys are fast and are survivors. Their foraging abilities are very good and they can take care of themselves if they have to. They are good layers but are not crazy about being handled. They don't enjoy being picked up by humans. It is therefore important that you hold them when they are still young, so they get used to being handled by humans and being around them.

They lay white eggs only. This breed of chicken is also commonly used for their meat, because they are extremely easy to breed. They are not competitive and will breed with any rooster. We never ate our chickens, but it is certainly an option with the Breda chicken.
