Brahma chickens are one of my absolute favorite breeds of chicken. They averaged about 180 eggs per year and although they grow slowly and are no longer suitable for large scale production of meat. Perhaps not they most economical type of chicken since they are large and eat more feed and still only produce quite average or slightly below average amount of eggs. They also develop quite slowly and are not full grown until they are 8 months. Therefor they might take some time to start laying eggs.

However the chickens are social and calm and I think that the sound of the roosters crow is easier on the ears. The kids will like them because they don't start flitting around as soon as someone comes into the cage. And of course when in a cold climate it is good that they are winter hardy.
