I was given a Brahma a few years back as a birthday gift from a fellow backyard chicken enthusiast. Her name was Sylvia, after my grandmother who also carries herself with a regal grace. She was already laying when I received her and I put her with my other hens. She was a beautiful cream white with flecks of black. Her hackles were a bright almost scarlet red. She carried herself with a dignity that I haven’t seen in many chicken breeds. Brahma are feather legged and stand fairly straight compared to most of the other larger breeds. Sylvia didn’t lay eggs as often as other hens when I received her, which led me to believe that she was already two or three years old. She was sent to freezer camp last year when she stopped laying for six months. I have plans of getting a small flock of these birds if I ever get more space.
