Acquired: Bred animal myself

I have had good experiences with Bourbon Red. We either hatch them here are buy they at 10 days old from a local breeder. They do not grow as fast as others but the meat is tender and has a flavor close to, but a little milder then wild turkeys.
Our hens have been great mothers sitting on nest and hatching chickens, ducks and guineas along with turkeys. The poults are harder to raise then other breeds. The only way we can raise the poults successfully is by penning them until about 6 months old. If you pen them you have to have a roof of some kind on it because they can fly and will fly out. Our turkeys are free range and penned for their safety at night.
