The Bantams

Growing up we had lots of free-range chickens. These birds roamed the farm roosting and nesting where they wanted. They even ate with the pigs and cows.

These bantams were a hodge podge of bantam breeds but Booted Bantam, Belgium Bantam and Hamburg were all part of the mix.

The hens would hatch a couple of batches of eggs every summers. The were mostly self sufficient and for the most part wild.

I would recommend Bantam breeds for a colorful backyard chicken.
