These are THE meat goat where we come from. We are still learning about these creatures and there seems to be much to learn. For a long time we were just bumping off the odd wild goat in the hills around our home but eventually we decided to have a go at breeding them. We are supplementing their feed with hay at the moment because we don’t have a lot of pasture that will hold them; they need high fences.
The kids grow well but are only reaching about 25kg in about 3 months. We are seriously considering investing in another high quality buck; we paid a fortune for one and then a snake bit him. We could catch a wild one, there are plenty of solid looking bucks in the hills, but I think that is going the wrong way. The Boer buck over a wild doe is a good mix so they tell me.
The more you can spend on that buck, the better – just watch out for snakes.
