I've worked with boer goats at my mother's operation and had some crosses here. They are one of the more popular breeds of meat goat, chosen for their manageable size and high quality meat.

Boers are very social goats (but really most goats are) and enjoyable to keep. There is not much cuter than a boer kid jumping and playing, which might be a consideration if you intend these for meat (their primary use) and have a tough time sending animals to slaughter that never get ugly. Even the adults are one of the cuter breeds. A fact of life but something to keep in mind.

In my experience boer meat is more mild in flavor and so is a good option for chevon if you've found other breeds to be too flavored. Since goats are browsers that prefer brushy feeds, they can be a very useful and efficient source of meat.
