Acquired: Bred animal myself

Turkey is one of my favorite meats. So, of course, I do raise a few, My personal favorite breed is the Black Spanish turkey. They are very easy to raise and are quite hardy. These birds grow rapidly. If I get babies in March, I have 35 pound gobblers by October.
These birds have a quiet temperament. I have rarely had one that I couldn't walk up to and pick up. They are very winter hardy, as well. I can easily keep a couple of breeding pairs over the winter without having to worry about the cold bothering them. They free range very well, too.
These turkeys lay cream colored very large eggs. Try a turkey egg omelet or use one in a cake. The eggs are tastier than chicken eggs.
