Chicken thinks she's a dog?

We have had chickens a few different times over the years. Most recently, we acquired 5 hens specifically for egg collection. Due to our chickens being free-range chickens, we lost 4 of the 5 to the surrounding wildlife at our homestead.

However, the lone survivor has managed to outlast them all while developing a sense of 'self' along the way. Gray Beard believes she is a dog. It's true! As you can see in the photos, she has become a frequent attendee of our family reunions. And quite frankly, she often becomes the life of the party as people marvel at her social skills and her ill-manners of begging at the table!

In addition to being a party animal, Gray Beard has earned her keep. She has been very consistent over the years with laying one egg per day and always in her hen house. When she's not laying her egg, she can be found foraging the property and hanging out with the dogs.
