Sex links to me are a good, economical layer choice. They forage well, aren't overly-large, and produce large, good-quality eggs with a fair feed conversion.
My black sex links have tolerated weather changes very well and are among the most hearty birds in my coop. As a rule sex links are not a broody bird, but I do have one exception in a black and she can be broody and moody at times.
The body size is fair so that extras and healthy culls can make a decent soup bird, but I wouldn't specifically grow them for meat. Overall, an excellent egg choice and a pretty good all-around bird.
