What started as a 4-H (agriculture club) project became a multi-year stint in caring for chickens and roosters. We had so much fun with our chickens! They were not easy to keep penned, but we had plenty of room for them to roam. The stray cats in our neighborhood eventually picked them off one by one, which would have been somewhat preventable if we'd been able to keep them penned. It's necessary to have a separate space and coop for them, as they're messy creatures. However, it was a very rewarding experience, excellent education for the kids and lots of fun!
