Ayrshire are unique dairy cows. They originate in England, and are typically red and white. The ones we own on our farm are quite strong. Ayrshires have few health problems. They are lower in milk production. I’ve found them to be quite strong in their personality. They need to be in the know about things, but they are shy. Very shy. I’ve had a hard time breaking some of them.

There are not many Ayrshire around the U.S. because of their lower productivity than other dairy breeds. We have a few on our dairy and are trying to breed better ones. Maybe we will help advance the breed.
