For being all black, they still have a beautiful appearance. My grandma kept these on her property and I helped care for them. They produced good eggs; 5 or 6 per week per chicken at their peak. They were also good foragers and had a pretty good temperament. A couple of them were friendlier than the others, seeming to like human attention and affection.
They are very hardy and make a good meat bird, although we did not use ours for that. They are a fairly large bird in comparison with other breeds and they have nice soft feathers.
