We currently have four Araucana chickens. Unfortunately, they stopped laying consistently about six months ago, so we just got a new batch of chicks.
We feed our current chickens a mix of chicken feed and vegetables -- just whatever greens have been in the fridge too long or are left over from dinner. They seem to do well in either heat or cold, but, being in Texas, they're used to hot weather. We keep them in a portable chicken coup my dad constructed, so I can't really speak to their foraging ability.
They lay beautiful light blue/green eggs. They aren't very big, and they haven't laid as many as we would've hoped. Their temperament is on par with other chickens I've owned. They fight occasionally and one of them have some feathers permanently missing. But they don't seem to fight very often.
As I said, they stopped laying consistently about six months ago. I'll find one or two eggs every week or so, but that's about it. It's a little disappointing, but we have high hopes for the new chicks!
