Honestly the Araucana was added to my coop just for the fun of it. What's not fun about blue eggs?
I think there is some idea that colored eggs are lesser eggs and that the birds are totally novelty animals, but that's not really true. The birds are a bit larger but don't seem to be excessive eaters, range well, have laid consistently large eggs with good shell quality, and have kept up that laying and quality over a number of years. When some of my brown layers have had weakened shells, the blues did not.
I find these to be fun birds producing pretty eggs with good longevity.
