American Guinea Hogs

The ideal homestead, or small farm hog is, in my opinion, the American Guinea Hog. We have had as many a 20 at a time over the past 5 years and have found them to be consistently easy to manage, calm, easy to keep healthy, and fun to be around. The only reason I would not rate the pigs to be good for children under 8 is because they do get over 100 pounds, and the possibility of being 'bumped into' by an animal that large is something to take into consideration when allowing small children to be around them. I recommend these pigs as back yard companions, as well as excellent butchering hogs. The meat is flavorful and rich, and the hogs are not so large that they produce more meat than the average family can store or consume.
