I love this chicken! I find this wheaten-colored Ameraucana to be one of the most beautiful birds I have seen or owned. She is very friendly and curious. She loves to come out and watch from her little yard while we hang out and play in the backyard. She will forage and take worms or feed from your hand. She is definitely not as aloof or flighty as my Rhode Island Reds of the same age.
In past experience (this one is not quite old enough to lay yet) the eggs of this breed are reliably timed, the birds don't get broody often, the eggs are medium (sometimes large) and very pretty shades of green/blue. I have seen ranges in color from moss green to robin's egg blue.
This breed is okay in heat (they don't love it, but they survive). They are very resilient to the cold though (and it gets COLD here in Nebraska winter sometimes). This is probably due to their uber-cute beards and very small combs. The distaste and worry coming along with excessive heat is really the only downfall I can find to this breed. Another potential con for others may be that their temperament is so pleasant that other birds walk (peck!) right over them. I wouldn't put this breed with aggressive other breeds.
