These are great birds to own. Some are more friendly than others. I find the silver variety to be very skittish and standoffish. Be aware there is a difference between a true Ameraucana and what one purchases at the feed stores and hatcheries. Feed store and hatchery birds are not true Ameraucana's and most people call hatchery/feed store stock Easter Eggers. There are only 8 accepted colors by the Ameraucana Breeders Club for this bird. If looking for a true Ameraucana my suggestion is to go to the ABC website to find a breeder that breeds to the SOP. The accepted colors are black, blue, buff, wheaten, blue wheaten, white, silver, brown red. Hopefully Lavender will become an accepted color soon as well.
