This is a gorgeous species of crab. They aren't as easy to take care of as smaller crabs such as fiddlers or hermit crabs, but they're also not only JUST for veteran keepers. I would say they are manageable by a beginner. Though they aren't as active as other crabs, they are pretty fun to feed if yo aren't squeamish. When I kept them, their diet mostly consisted of live goldfish, and they are ruthless eaters. Sorry for the detail for those of you who ARE squeamish, but its a good thing to know: they will eat the entire fish alive. Ive seen them start from the tail and worth their way slowly to the head while the poor thing is still alive. So if this is something that would upset you, I would highly advise not getting one of these guys. Especially because you end up having to hand feed them the fish mostly as its easier than making them catch it themselves if you happen to have a large enough little lake in their enclosure for fish. Also, they WILL eat your smaller crabs, so please do not keep them in the same enclosures.
