My dad brought Herman home when I was ten years old. We kept him in the dining room where it was warm and sunny. He was very interesting and seemed friendly enough. As an adult I realize tarantulas are fragile and should be handled with caution and care. Herman spun webs, molted, jumped straight up in the air, and ate live food. We fed our tarantula live crickets and feeder fish. He had horrible timing and would start crunching his dinner right as we sat down to ours.
If you would like a tarantula as a pet please only purchase captive bred and research the best breeds for pets first. A pet store should be able to advise you on the items you will need for his habitat and keep in mind that their life spans are upwards of twenty years.
